A Letter from the Principal

Dear Loyola Families,

Thank you to all of the families who came out and decorated their cars for Trunk or Treat! What an amazing success it was! Every car, and even the bikes, were so creative. It was wonderful to see our community come together to create such a fun and memorable evening for our students and families.

The Book Fair has once again been an astounding success this week! I had so much fun being a Guest Reader last night, making crafts, and finding some wonderful books to purchase for holiday gifts. A huge thank you to Lauren, Cristina, and Zaynah for all of their hard work, time, and dedication to Loyola and making our Book Fair such a special experience for our students and families!

I look forward to seeing many of you dressed up tomorrow as your favorite book characters as we culminate our Book Fair week! We will also be making bookmarks during lunch to go along with all of our new books. A special thank you to our Spirit Club for organizing and making this fun activity happen for students!

Exciting News! LASD Illuminate is now open for registration! Illuminate LASD invites students to become experts, innovators, and change-makers. From TK to 8th grade, Illuminate LASD invites students to share what they now know and can do by sharing the process and products of their learning. As I reflect on all that our Loyola community does for our students, I am especially happy that this month we will be focusing on Gratitude through our Character Strong curriculum. Gratitude is more than simply saying "thank you." It is taking the time to recognize and appreciate the people, experiences, and little moments that make our lives and community special.

As the month unfolds, I encourage you to take a few moments to talk with your child about what they are grateful for at home, at school, in our community, and with family and friends. Most importantly, let's help our children recognize how fortunate we are to be part of a community where people show up for one another, care for one another, and work together to make Loyola such a special place.

I am so grateful for this community and all that you do to make Loyola a wonderful place to learn and grow!

Attached is this month's Character Strong parent letter with additional information about our focus on Gratitude.
Important: Next Wednesday, Nov 11 there is No School, Due to Veteran’s Day. We will have school Thursday the 12th and Friday the 13th. With Friday being a very busy day, as we celebrate Ruby Bridges Walk to School and a Parent Coffee presentation on K-5 Math in our Library.

*November 13, we remember Ruby Bridges and celebrate an inclusive education! Ruby Bridges is the first African American child to desegregate William Frantz Elementary School. At six years old, Ruby's bravery helped pave the way for Civil Rights action in the American South.

Ways to participate:

  • 1. Meet at McKenzie Park on Nov 13 at 7:55am by the dog park. Get a snack and a flag and join our 1/2-mile march to Loyola. Students and parents are welcome to join the parade. Make signs at home to bring as well!

  • 2. If students can’t join the march, they can arrive at school as usual and stop by the lion statue to receive a commemorative bracelet and sticker.

*Nov 13: Parent Coffee, Topic K-5 Math in the Library 8:40-10:00:  A Look Inside K-5 Mathematics
What does math learning look like in our K–5 classrooms? Join us for a parent coffee to explore how students are building understanding, solving problems, and sharing their thinking. You’ll experience some of the math students are doing and learn how models, strategies, and classroom discussions help children become confident, flexible mathematical thinkers.

Have a wonderful weekend!

We also want to send our appreciation to our awesome Book Fair chairs, Cristina McHugh, Lauren Macomber and Zaynah Rahman!  We had an amazing time, especially last night at Family Night!  Thank you for organizing such an important event that brings the joy of reading to our classrooms and homes!

SPRING PLAY: Seussical JR.

The Loyola PTA is pleased to announce this year’s musical, Seussical JR.! If your student is in the third through sixth grade at Loyola and is interested in performing, please plan to sign up through the process described below. The program will run for about 3 months with performances on Thursday, March 18 – Sunday, March 21, 2027.

The first step is to sign up for the musical. Sign-ups will become available via email at 8:00 PM on Thursday, November 12, 2026. Sign-ups fill up very quickly (last year the slots were full within 30 minutes), so if your child is very interested, please mark your calendars and watch your emails for the link to sign up. If interest exceeds the number of spots available, priority will be given to 6th grade students and children with parents in lead volunteer roles, followed by students in the order they sign up.

Once your child is confirmed for participation in the musical, your child must submit an initial audition to determine their role in the cast. Note that every child who auditions will have a role! The audition must be submitted via recorded video by end of day on Saturday, November 21, 2026, meaning that your child will record and submit an audition video with a 30 to 60 second song and a 30 to 60 second memorized monologue or poem.

Select cast members may be called back in person in the Multipurpose Room (MPR) at Loyola on Saturday, December 5, 2026 from 10:00 AM – 1:30 PM to do some additional read-throughs to finalize roles. The entire cast will have a read-through on Monday, December 14, 2026 from 3:15 PM – 5:15 PM.

Regular rehearsals begin Wednesday, January 6, 2027 and will continue on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:15 PM – 4:45 PM and Thursdays from 2:00 PM – 3:45 PM. There are also designated Saturday rehearsals on January 23 (Music) and January 30 (Dance) from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
We need your help! Please remember that this is an active after-school experience where it is critical that the kids have an interest in being involved and parents must be willing to volunteer time to help. These productions are not possible without the participation of all parents who have children in the play. There will be a variety of volunteer activities available to fit your parental interests and we REQUIRE at least 15 hours of volunteer time for each child in the production as well as involvement from all parents for rehearsal supervision. This is a great activity to help build your Loyola community while sharing a wonderful experience with your child/children.

We are looking for several parents to take on lead volunteer roles, please email lindsey.frugaletti@gmail.com if interested!

Finally, if your 5th or 6th grade child is interested in being part of the musical but does not want to perform on stage, there may be opportunities to assist in working backstage, helping with lights and props, selling tickets at the show, and in other ways.

The cost of participation is $350 per child and $300 for each additional child. (If this is a hardship, please let Lindsey know at lindsey.frugaletti@gmail.com).
