Dear Loyola Families,
Thank you so much for all the well wishes, kind messages, and support you have shared with me over the past two weeks following the passing of my mom. I am truly overwhelmed by the love and kindness I have felt from this community. I cannot thank you enough for being there for me during this difficult time. I feel so fortunate to be part of such a caring community, and I hope to show my gratitude by continuing to show up wholeheartedly for each of you and your children every day. ❤️
The Great California ShakeOut
Today, Loyola participated in the Great California ShakeOut! Classes practiced “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” for one minute before quietly evacuating to the field. Students and staff did a wonderful job following procedures as we accounted for everyone on campus and practiced our emergency response roles. Teachers then continued the conversation in their classrooms, discussing earthquake safety at school and ways to prepare at home. Emergency preparedness is an important part of keeping our community safe, and I encourage you to visit the Great ShakeOut website to learn more and talk with your children about what to do during an earthquake at home and in other settings.
Rock N Roar Walkathon Is THIS Saturday! 🦁
I cannot wait to see our Lions and families out on the track this Saturday for our annual Rock N Roar Walkathon! I’m looking forward to joining you for some laps, cheering everyone on, and enjoying a fun day together as a community.
We have a couple of exciting NEW additions this year! One student from each grade who completes the most laps will win a BIG prize, and the student with the most laps overall will still take home the BIGGEST prize! We will also be selling raffle tickets at the Walkathon and throughout the school year. At the end of the year, we’ll draw the winning tickets, and some lucky students will have the chance to slime or silly-string Mrs. Rafferty at a Friday assembly! I have a feeling this will be a popular one!
Thank you to our amazing PTA, volunteers, and families who make events like this possible. The Walkathon is a wonderful reminder of what makes Loyola so special: the energy, enthusiasm, and connection that bring our Lions together. I hope to see you all there!
Be Kind, Be Strong, Be Well,

Avoid higher at-the-door ticket prices–click HERE to attend our largest school-wide fundraiser of the year! Also, we still need volunteers! Please consider giving an hour of your time while you are waiting for your students to finish their laps–click HERE to help. Contact Mary Erginsoy ( maryerginsoy@gmail.com) or Aubrey Rotschi ( aubreynorman21@yahoo.com) with questions. Contact Mrs. Rafferty ( krafferty@lasdschools.org) for assistance if the tickets are a financial hardship for you.

Register HERE by October 25 for Loyola's Spooktacular Trunk-or-Treat on Friday, October 30, 5:30-7 PM. Loyola students and siblings are invited to go “trunk or treating” in the Loyola parking lot and enjoy a complimentary light dinner. Although hosting a vehicle is not required to attend, we need families to volunteer to host vehicle trunks for the event to run. Hosting is easy! Just dress up your car's trunk in a not-so-scary Halloween costume (many available on Amazon) and pass out treats (provided by the host family). Contact Malinda Lee ( malinda.shinrhei@gmail.com) or Ketaki Deo ( ketz.deo@gmail.com) with questions.
Finally, right around the corner is our popular Book Fair, Nov 3-5 in the Multi. There will be a Family Night on Wednesday, November 4, 4:30-7:00 PM. For now, save the dates and we will provide more details soon!
Have a great weekend!

We were so excited to welcome the students and teachers back to their yoga mats this September! We started the year by focusing on the Character Strong trait of Respect: seeing value in all people and things, and treating them with care. Respect is the foundation of our Yoga and Mindfulness classes, as it helps us move safely and supports a successful environment for everyone.
This year, we are working toward a common goal of increasing our strength in the Best Plank Pose. We will accomplish this through small, measurable tasks, leading up to a fun plank challenge at the end of the year. It will take resilience and effort, but we know the students are up for the challenge!
We will also continue expanding our Mindful Toolbox with activities centered around six themes: Breathe, Move, Connect, Express, Regenerate, and Believe. This month, we practiced Ball Breath to help students learn how to take deep, full breaths. Just like a ball, our ribcages expand when we inhale and contract when we exhale.
Throughout the year, we will also focus on maintaining a tall, strong spine both in our poses and in everyday life. The students learned about the "Triple S" from LYT yoga, where we align our Skull, Scapula, and Sacrum to find our Tall Spine. We also practiced the YWLT Toolbox Move exercise to wake up our postural muscles, which will be foundational in achieving our best plank!
We finished class in a resting pose with our Anchor Breath, watching kites "fly" over our heads. It was a wonderful opportunity to find calm and simply notice our breath, bodies, thoughts, and feelings.
With Gratitude,
The Bridge Mindfulness & Yoga Team
