Dear Loyola Lion Families,
We are now 26 days into the school year! While that may not sound like a long time, our students have already accomplished so much. They are deep into their learning, completing meaningful projects, building new friendships, and reconnecting with old ones. It has been wonderful to see the energy, curiosity, and sense of community that make Loyola such a special place.
As we move through the next few weeks, I want to share a few upcoming events and important notices with you.
🌎 Multicultural Fair
Saturday, September 19 | 5:00–7:00 p.m. | Multi-Purpose Room
Come celebrate the many cultures, traditions, and experiences that make up our wonderful Loyola community! The Multicultural Fair is a special opportunity to enjoy delicious food, learn about different traditions, and connect with one another. We hope to see you there!
📚 PTA General Meeting
Tomorrow, September 18 | 8:45–10:00 a.m. | Library
Our PTA General Meeting will take place tomorrow morning in the library, immediately following the school assembly. We are grateful for the many ways our PTA supports our students, staff, and school community.
👕 Walkathon T-Shirt Design Contest
The winner will be announced tomorrow at assembly!
We were so impressed by the creativity and thoughtfulness of the many students who submitted designs for our Walkathon T-shirt contest. Thank you to everyone who participated and shared their artistic talents. We look forward to announcing the winning design tomorrow!
🚧 Upcoming PG&E Inspection Work
The City of Los Altos has notified us that PG&E will be performing inspection work along Berry Avenue between Brentwood and Golden from September 21–28. A lane closure permit has been approved for 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m., and PG&E flaggers will be assisting with traffic.
Please be aware that this work is expected to have an impact on traffic in front of the school. We encourage families to plan accordingly and allow extra time during drop-off and pick-up.

1st Grade, Ms. Hernandez: Learning Through Play in First Grade
Ms. Hernandez’s first-grade students are discovering that math can be both meaningful and fun as they learn to play dominoes! As an introduction to their new unit in the Bridges Math curriculum, students will explore three different domino games, called “workplaces,” over the next week. Through these engaging games, students will develop strategies for subitizing—the ability to look at a small group of objects and instantly recognize how many there are without counting. Subitizing helps make mental math more natural and gives students a powerful way to show their mathematical thinking. As students play, make decisions, explain their strategies, and learn from one another, they become curious, purposeful learners who find meaning in learning and take an active role in shaping their own growth. These experiences also help students build deep mathematical knowledge and strong academic skills, creating a foundation for continued learning and confidence in mathematics.

Early bird registration is open for the 2026 Rock ‘N’ Roar Walkathon on Saturday, October 17 | 10 AM-1 PM! Click HERE to register for a high-energy day of music, community, and laps around the track to support Loyola! Students, families, teachers and staff will rock out to a live DJ and enjoy concessions, food trucks and carnival games! Walkathon T-shirts are only guaranteed for early bird registrants; prices go up on 9/26. The winner of the logo design contest will be announced at Friday assembly tomorrow 9/18. Come hear about school updates from Principal Rafferty, learn about the financial realignment of the LASD Education Partnership and how your donations are used, approve the budget for the year, make decisions about facilities upgrades, and find out about upcoming events on campus!

Last week, our 3rd through 6th-grade students enjoyed an inspiring visit from NYT bestselling author James Ponti! He is the brilliant mind behind popular middle-grade series City Spies and The Sherlock Society.
The special assembly kicked off with an excellent introduction by two of our very own students, who did a fantastic job of welcoming our guest speaker to the stage. It was a wonderful opportunity for our young readers to connect with the person behind the stories. Thank you to our local children's bookstore, Linden Tree Books, for bringing James and other authors to our campus.

LAEF’s Fall Fundraising Campaign is underway, with a push to encourage donations now through September 28. Thanks to the generosity of many families, we are now at 38% of our fundraising goal. But we need everyone’s help to sustain the well-rounded, quality education that LASD schools are known for. No matter the amount, every gift matters and strengthens our schools.
