A Letter from the Principal

Dear Loyola Lion Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend and were able to stay cool during the heat this week!

I continue to be so impressed by the incredible talent and creativity we have here at Loyola. We had over 40 student submissions for our Walkathon T-shirt Design Contest, and every single one was impressive! Our students shared such creative ideas and designs, and it is going to be very difficult to choose a winning design. Thank you to everyone who participated and shared their creativity with us!

It is hard to believe that we are already one month into the new school year! Things are rolling along wonderfully, and it has been exciting to see our students settling into routines, building relationships, and engaging in meaningful learning experiences across our classrooms.

As we move through the year, we will continue our focus on Deeper Learning and our commitment to intentionally designing rich learning experiences for every student. Our teachers are thoughtfully designing opportunities for students to have voice and ownership in their learning while developing the skills and mindsets they will carry with them beyond the classroom.

This month, we are also focusing on Respect through our Character Strong curriculum. Respect is an important part of building a strong and caring school community. We are helping students understand that respect means valuing themselves and others, listening to different perspectives, treating people with kindness, and recognizing that every person deserves to feel seen, heard, and valued. We will continue looking for opportunities to practice and celebrate respectful behaviors throughout our school day.

Thank you for your continued partnership and for all you do to support our students and our Loyola community. There is so much positive energy on campus, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of this wonderful community.

Be Kind, Be Strong, Be Well,

Principal, Loyola Elementary

Come dressed in your cultural attire or country flag colors! This event is free and open to the Loyola community, even if you are not bringing a cultural dish or activity to share. No registration required. The winner of the Rock 'N' Roar logo design contest will be announced on Friday, September 18 at Friday assembly.  There were so many amazing submissions that the Walkathon Committee is having a difficult time selecting just one design!  Good luck to all the students who entered the competition!

Please join us for our first PTA General Association Meeting of the year on Friday September 18, 8:45 AM in the Loyola Library right after assembly.  Come learn about the financial realignment of the LASD Education Partnership and how your donations are used, approve the budget for the year, make decisions about facilities upgrades, and get updates on all the upcoming events on campus!

Secret Garden news:

Many students have enjoyed the garden this fall.  They have worked hard at tidying up after the summer and the garden is looking pretty good. We are busy collecting seeds and coloring seed packets for sale (probably in November).  Sadly the garden will be closed from Sept.16 to the end of October as I will be driving to the east coast to take workshops with the Nature Printing Society and to visit with my daughter and family.
