Good afternoon Loyola families,
See below for a few Loyola highlights I would like to share with you…
Math Problem of the Month
Under the guidance of Ms. Cho, Mrs. Mori and Mrs. Choi, our teachers are engaging their students in a monthly Math “Problem of the Month(POM).”
What is POM?
The Problems of the Months are designed to be used schoolwide to promote a problem-solving theme at our school. Each problem is divided into five levels of difficulty, Level A (primary) through Level E (high school), to allow access to stretch students thinking to go deeper into mathematical complexities.
Why use it?
*High cognitive demand-problem solving
*Builds a community of excitement about math
*Differentiated learning
*Promotes perseverance, confidence, and a growth mindset in students
*Promotes deep math conversations
How?
The November’s POM is called Squirreling It Away. Students will use number operations, organized lists, and counting methods to solve problems.
At the end of each month, we hold a “gallery walk” where student solutions are displayed and observed by peers.

Thanks to all that completed this survey. It will most certainly help us when determining the best ways to communicate with you all. Thanks to Christy Vaughn, PTA Communications VP, for her work on this.
Reminder: “A Human Ice Cream Sundae”
On Friday, December 7th, immediately after the Morning Assembly, I will live up to my end of the bargain as our Walkathon pledges surpassed the goal! I will be decorated as a Human Ice Cream Sundae. Did someone say…Chocolate Syrup? Hope you can join us for the fun!
In service to you,
