Good afternoon Loyola families…

Hope this finds you well and in a smooth, fluid “school” routine with our children.

As we move through the month of September, our campus is buzzing with great energy and lots of learning!  As we do each year, we administer to our students both a Reading Benchmark and Math Benchmark assessment.  For reading, students are being given their initial F&P (Fountas and Pinnell) assessment which helps teachers identify reading levels.  For math, students grades 2-6 are taking our i-Ready online assessment which identifies for us an overall math level, along with levels in the following sub strands; Number & Operations, Algebra & Algebraic Thinking, Measurement & Data, and Geometry.  All of this data, along with other assessment data we collect along the way, will drive the work we do in our Professional Learning Communities (takes place on early release days) and allow us to identify specific student needs and how to address them.

As mentioned in my last Leaflet message, we are looking for parents to be part of our School Site Council (see below).  Please consider joining this team as parent perspective is vital to the success of our school and our students.

 School Site Council

We are currently looking for parents to be part of Loyola’s School Site Council.  This group’s primary responsibility is to ensure that our funding is directly related to our school-wide goals as outlined in our Single Plan for Student Achievement(SPSA).  In addition, the group will discuss our school-wide student data and play an important role in developing next year’s SPSA.  The group is comprised of teachers, parents and the Principal.  Meetings will be held bi-monthly after school. Our first meeting will be Monday, October 8th, 3:15-4:15.  Then as a team, we will set the rest of our dates.   Please email Mr. Julian if you are interested; rjulian@lasdchools.org

Go Lions!

 In service to you,

Richard Julian, Principal
